Question:
If PIN Plus isn't a hauler, what are you?
PIN Plus offers more than waste services. We offer community waste events, home services, and manage trash services. All in one place.
In communities PIN Plus offers trash services, we act as a waste broker. A waste broker is a professional or company that acts as an intermediary between waste generators (such as businesses or municipalities) and waste haulers (companies that collect and transport waste). Waste brokers do not typically own or operate their own waste collection vehicles, but instead, they work to find the best waste management solution for their clients and coordinate with waste haulers to provide waste disposal services.
In other words, waste brokers help businesses and municipalities manage their waste disposal needs by finding and arranging services with waste haulers. They do not actually haul the waste themselves, but rather act as a middleman between the waste generators and the waste haulers.
Question:

Question:
Pausing waste service
To stop or temporarily pause the service at your home, please schedule a bin removal through PIN Plus. This is because your hauler’s billing system charges based on the presence of bins on your property rather than whether they are being utilized weekly.
If you would like to schedule a bin removal, please be aware that there is a small delivery charge for pickup and delivery when you decide to resume service.
Question:
The driver damaged my bin, how do I get a replacement?
To obtain a free replacement from your hauler, please provide us with:
- Front serial number
- Gallon size
- Photo of the damaged bin
Please note that the replacement will be free only if the bin is damaged.
Question:
What are Organics?
Organic waste, also known as "biowaste," is any waste that comes from plants or animals and is biodegradable. It's typically composed of materials that were once alive, such as:
- Food waste: This includes leftovers, vegetable peels, eggshells, coffee grounds, and any other food items that are discarded.
- Green waste: This type of waste includes garden waste such as grass clippings, branches, leaves, flowers, and other plant material.
- Paper waste: This includes soiled paper and cardboard that are not suitable for traditional recycling due to contamination with food or other biological materials.
- Wood waste: This includes untreated wood, sawdust, and other wood materials.
- Textiles and fibers: This includes natural fiber products like cotton, wool, and silk.
- Manure and animal waste: This includes waste from livestock and pets, as well as from wildlife in some cases.
When disposed of improperly, organic waste can contribute to methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas. However, when managed properly, organic waste can be composted, turned into soil amendments, or used to generate biogas, contributing to a circular economy and sustainable waste management practices.
Question:
What counts as yard waste?
Hey there! Let's talk trash (well, yard waste to be specific). Before tossing everything from your yard, let's ensure you know what can and can't go in your bin.
Good news! You can chuck the following into your trash bin for pickup on your designated service day:
- Trees
- Branches
- Trimmings
- Brush
- Grass clippings
- Lawn edging
But hold up, don't try to sneak in any heavyweights like soil, sod, bricks, or stones. These guys don't make the cut for yard waste.
Now, keep in mind that yard waste rules and availability might differ depending on your area. If you want to add yard waste collection to your regular service, give us a shout! We're always happy to help.
Question:
What if my next pickup date falls on a holiday?
Holidays may affect your regular pickup schedules. If your service day falls on or after a PIN Plus observed holiday, your pickup may occur prior to your regularly scheduled service day or it may be delayed.
Holiday schedules are typically available in the dashboard and announcements 14 days prior to the holiday. If your next pickup falls on a holiday, please check for a possible change to your service day or time:
- Log in to your My PIN Plus profile
- Upcoming hauler schedule holidays will appear on your main dashboard up to 14 days in advance.
Question:
What is California Senate Bill 1383?
California Senate Bill 1383 (SB1383), also known as the Short-Lived Climate Pollutant Reduction Act of 2016, represents California's commitment to reduce short-lived climate pollutants in the atmosphere. Short-lived climate pollutants are particularly potent greenhouse gases that stay in the atmosphere for a shorter time than other gases, yet contribute significantly to global warming. These include methane, black carbon, and hydrofluorocarbons.
The primary aim of SB1383 is to reduce the amount of organic waste, a primary source of methane emissions, that goes to landfill. The legislation establishes targets to achieve a 50% reduction in the level of the statewide disposal of organic waste from the 2014 level by 2020 and a 75% reduction by 2025.
"Organics" or "organic waste" in this context refers to food waste, green waste, landscape and pruning waste, nonhazardous wood waste, and food-soiled paper waste that is mixed in with food waste.
This could also include textiles and carpets, plastics, and other materials that are diverted from the waste stream and recycled into new products.
SB1383 also requires that not less than 20% of the edible food currently disposed of is recovered for human consumption by 2025. The law applies to a range of businesses and entities, including supermarkets, restaurants, schools, health facilities, and food distribution companies.

Question:
What is the startup fee on my account?
At PIN Plus, we are committed to providing high-quality waste services to all our customers. To cover the cost of setting up new accounts and to prevent us from raising the ongoing cost of our waste services, we charge a one-time new account startup fee. This fee covers our team's administrative expenses and overhead, allowing us to continue providing the same great service at an affordable price. As part of our commitment, we offer a free bin replacement service to ensure that our customers always have bins that are in good condition. We are dedicated to providing transparent and upfront pricing to our customers, and this fee is a necessary cost to help us maintain the level of service our customers have come to expect from us.
Question:
What kind of food can I put in my organics bin?
In the City of San Diego, you can place the following items in your green organics recycling bin:
Food Scraps:
- Fruit and vegetable peels and scraps
- Cooked meat and bones
- Eggshells
- Coffee grounds and paper coffee filters
- Plate scrapings, including rice, beans, and other cooked foods
Food-Soiled Paper Products:
- Paper napkins and paper towels (free from cleaning agents)
- Paper tea bags (ensure they do not contain synthetic materials)
- Paper plates and take-out containers without plastic lining
- Greasy pizza boxes
Yard Trimmings and Other Organic Materials:
- Grass clippings
- Leaves and flowers
- Small branches, sticks, and twigs
- Untreated and unpainted wood
- Hair and fur
- Straw and hay
To maintain a clean and odor-free green bin, consider the following tips:
- Wrap food scraps in paper towels, newspaper, or paper bags before placing them in the bin.
- Store food waste in the refrigerator or freezer and transfer it to the green bin shortly before collection day.
- Layer yard trimmings at the bottom of the bin to absorb moisture and prevent food from sticking.
- Keep the bin lid closed and, if possible, store the bin out of direct sunlight.
Question:
What should I do if my bins are missed for service?
Please leave your missed service bin on the curbside and then contact us via email or phone the next morning to schedule a recovery. The haulers have a 24-hour window to recover the missed service. Recoveries due to hauler negligence are free of charge.
Question:
What should I do on pickup day?
- To ensure collection, all containers must be placed at designated point of collection by 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day, your haulers then have until 7pm to complete service.
- Set the authorized container on the street or alley, wheels against the curb and with the handle facing your home.
- Do not overflow or overpack your container. Make sure the bin lids are fully closed. Overflowing/over-packed bins may prohibit drivers from collecting the contents of the container. Objects sticking out of the container can become projectiles causing damage or injury, and over packed trash may become wedged in the bin during the automated collection process.
- The container should be 3 feet from other containers, parked cars, lamp posts, trees, mailbox posts and any other obstructions so the collection truck can access your container.
- Please report any missed pickups within 24 hours to expedite the scheduling of a recovery pickup.
